Existing
Business Intelligence Tool User
An Organization already has a Business Intelligence (BI) tool but
suffers from poor performance and management find the tool difficult
to use.
Solution
- If
necessary, implement a data repository to extract, transform,
and load information from source systems.
Many BI tools create the OLAP cube directly from the source data.
By doing so, load times for the cube can be significantly greater
than loading from a data repository. This also drastically reduces
the load placed on transactional servers and the time taken to format
data ready for analysis. By shifting the processing off the transactional
server to a dedicated analysis server, performance improvements
in the transactional server should be realized.
- Redirect
the existing BI tool to reference the data repository. Business
analysts and power users continue to use that tool because of
flexibility and know how.
- Deploy
Q4-Analysis to management allowing simple point and click
analysis of key business drivers.
The solution described here adds two things to the existing solution:
first the star schema data repository, and secondly Q4-Analysis
for management/administrative users. The existing BI users will
benefit from the improved performance of their current BI tool while
the remaining new and existing users will see improved data integrity
that comes as a by-product of this type of project.
